ABB and MASKEEI collaborates to reach carbon emissions reduction in Indonesia

Indonesia aims to reduce carbon emissions by 31,89% by 2030, with international support at 43.20% and a Zero-Emission target by 2060.

ABB in Indonesia continues to support the national energy efficiency and conservation program, by collaborating with the Indonesian Society for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (MASKEEI) at the Indonesia Energy Efficiency and Conservation Conference & Exhibition (IEECCE 2023) held from July 12 - 13, 2023. The collaboration was marked by an MoU signing to support the Energy Efficiency Movement (EEM) to signify the commitment of both parties to deliver effective energy efficiency solutions in Indonesia while supporting the government’s effort based on Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) by raising emission reduction target to 31,89% by 2030 with international support target by 43,20% and Zero-Emission target by 2060.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Chen Kang Tan, Vice President and Head of Motion Business, PT ABB Sakti Industri and R. M. Soedjono Respati, Chairman of The Indonesian Energy Conservation and Efficiency Society (MASKEEI).

In this collaboration, the two parties will share information about concrete steps that will be taken to improve energy efficiency and conservation efforts in Indonesia, explore those concrete steps, and increase information about the Energy Efficiency Movement among businesses and industry stakeholders along with related communities in Indonesia.

Chen Kang Tan, Vice President, and Head of Motion Business, ABB in Indonesia stated, “Through this collaboration, ABB Indonesia and MASKEEI can increase the efficiency of the industrial sector in Indonesia and can help the Government of Indonesia Net-Zero target by 2060 or sooner, which is an integral part of the overall development goal to become an advanced economy by 2045. This collaboration is also in line with the government's plan to carry out energy efficiency in accordance with Law No. 30 of 2007 concerning Energy to regulate the supply and use of energy in a sustainable manner.

Meanwhile, R.M. Soedjono Respati, Chairman of The Indonesian Energy Conservation and Efficiency Society (MASKEEI) stated that the MoU signing with ABB is aligned with MASKEEI’s commitment and vision in achieving the national agenda to develop clean and sustainable energy, through energy saving movement. "MASKEEI is open for any collaboration opportunities with all stakeholders. We believe that the collaboration between MASKEEI and ABB Indonesia will drive energy efficiency acceleration efforts for industries and business in this county," he added.

He further added that his party hopes to continue to strengthen its commitment to increase industrial efficiency in Indonesia and contribute as well as encourage the improvement of energy efficiency and the development of clean energy to meet the various challenges of the global energy transition towards clean energy for sustainable development.




The collaboration initiative comes from the awareness that the world is changing fast, and people encounter great challenges never encountered by humanity. By 2050, it is predicted that the global population will rise to 9.7 billion. On top of the rising population, we will face huge migrations and urbanization, concentrating high number of people in cities, especially in Jakarta. The global economy is expected to more than double over the same period. This will lead to a sharp increase in the energy demand, which will in turn accelerate climate change. As the world’s population and the demand for raw materials are growing, the supply of crucial raw materials is limited.

For decades, ABB through its variable speed drives has been helping industries, buildings, and transportation sectors to reduce energy consumption of electrical motors.
