Kongsberg Maritime Signs MoU to Advance Decarbonised Maritime Solutions in Indonesia

Kongsberg Maritime has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with PT PAL Indonesia to strengthen collaboration on energy-efficient and decarbonised maritime solutions for Indonesian vessel owners and operators. The agreement marks a further step in the company’s expanding engagement with Indonesia’s maritime sector.

Expanding Local Presence in Indonesia
In July 2025, Kongsberg Maritime opened two offices in Jakarta and Batam to support local sales, service, spare parts distribution and aftermarket activities. The expansion was designed to enhance responsiveness and provide technical support closer to customers in Indonesia’s shipbuilding and offshore markets.

The MoU with PT PAL builds on this local foundation, creating a structured framework for cooperation in vessel technology development and modernization programs.

Through the partnership, the companies intend to explore integration of energy-efficient propulsion, advanced control systems and digital vessel management solutions tailored to Indonesian operating conditions. The cooperation supports vessel designs that aim to reduce fuel consumption, optimize operational efficiency and lower emissions in line with global maritime decarbonization targets.

Alignment with National Maritime Roadmap
The partnership aligns with a maritime technology roadmap previously developed in coordination with Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation. The roadmap outlines modernization and sustainability objectives for the national fleet and shipbuilding sector.

By combining local shipbuilding capacity with advanced marine technology solutions, the collaboration seeks to strengthen Indonesia’s domestic maritime industry while supporting compliance with evolving international environmental standards.

Supporting a Developing Maritime Market
Indonesia’s maritime sector is undergoing expansion across commercial shipping, offshore services and naval programs. The MoU establishes a framework for technology transfer, project collaboration and long-term support aimed at enhancing fleet efficiency and sustainability.
